Estate Merlot 2018

$120.00 – $216.00

Tasting Notes

Our Estate Merlot displays aromatics of plum and spicy oak. The palate offers balanced flavours of red plums, savoury black olive and warm spiced oak.

Vinification

Merlot grapes are handpicked, de-stemmed and crushed into open-top fermenters. The wine is then gently pressed and matured in French oak barriques for 18 months.

Winemaker: Scott McCarthy

2018 Vintage

2018 vintage saw some early season humidity but concluded with a warm and dry summer resulting in an earlier harvest date for this parcel of fruit on the 22nd of February.

Wine Reviews

"It's charming and immediately appealing on the nose showing dark plum, green olive, warm spice and toasted nut aromas. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity backed by smooth mouthfeel and silky flow, finishing structured and attractively drying. At its best : now to 2030".

93 POINTS Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2022.

"As with the more recent vintage, the grapes were handpicked, de-stemmed and crushed into open top fermenters, before a gentle pressing into French oak barriques for 18 months. Deep magenta in colour, there are prominent plum and plum pudding notes, spices, dry herbs, bergamot and fruitcake. There is a hint of leafiness. Good focus and silky tannins for a mid-length wine. This will drink well for the next six to eight years. A really good Merlot".

92 POINTS Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot, June 2023.
